With a noble lineage from Master Anko Itosu to its present Grand Master, Soke Sadaaki Skagami, Itosu-ryu Karatedo International Federation is one of the most orthodox Karate groups, and is now represented in more than 20 countries throughout the world.
Affiliated dojos receive the full support of the headquarters of Itosu-ryu Karatedo International Federation, including personal visits from Soke and senior members to oversee branches and demonstrate the skills and curriculum of Itosu-ryu Karatedo.
Itosu-ryul Karatedo International Federation (IKIF) often receives inquiries regarding membership to our organization.
The easiest way to join Itosu-ryu is to visit one of our branch dojos and apply to become a student. You will begin as a white belt student under the guidance of a Sensei.
If you are an instructor with a dojo and you wish to affiliate with our organization, please take note of the followings:
If there is already IKIF branch in your country, you must apply for affiliation through them. To check if there is already an established branch in your country, click here.
If there is no affiliated branch in your country, then you must be prepared to visit Japan (at your expense) to meet with Soke Sadaaki Sakagami OR invite (at your expense) Soke or a Shihan to your dojo.
You must be willing to forfeit your current grade and accept a new grade (possibly a lower grade) after an assessment by Soke and/or Shihan.
AFTER you have traveled to Japan (or AFTER Soke or a shihan has visited your dojo) Soke will decide whether or not to grant full membership.
Should you wish to apply, please send a recent photograph of yourself, information about your karate background (please attach certified copies of all dan certificates) to us:
